Microsoft believes that Russia is attempting similar hacking activities prior to the 2016 elections

Last Updated on

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that Microsoft has released information Tuesday revealing a possible Russian group of hackers as the source behind hacking activities that targeted United States political groups as they approach the mid-term elections.

Microsoft is accusing the group of creating fake internet domains of mid-term election candidates that spoof their real campaigns.

In the AP article, it states “Microsoft calls the hacking group Strontium; others call it Fancy Bear or APT28. An indictment from U.S. special counsel Robert Mueller has tied it to Russian’s main intelligence agency, known as the GRU, and to the 2016 email hacking of both the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign.”
