GoFundMe efforts raise over $78k for a Los Angeles County music teacher

Maywood, CA – The viral video of a teenage student verbally harassing his music teacher by throwing a basketball at him, and repeatedly calling him racial slurs has caught the attention of many across America over the past couple of days.

The teacher, Marston Riley, 64, a teacher at, Maywood Academy High School, is seen in the video trying his best to keep his composure as the student repeatedly harasses him.  The student was reportedly asked to leave the classroom because of his attire and it did not meet the school’s dress code.  

Riley and the unidentified student is later seen engaged in a physical fight with one another.  The fight is later broken up by a woman that comes running into the classroom wearing a neon vest.  

Arrested for child abuse, Riley posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court November 30th.  A GoFundMe campaign was started by a colleague of Riley, Cecilia Diaz Jimenez, who once teaching at the same school.
The campaign has exceeded its goal of $50,000 with over $78,000 during the time of publishing of this article.  Jimenez describes that the funds will be used to help Riley with his legal fees as he goes through the court process and to also help with his cost of living as he seeks a new position.
