The state of Florida restores voting rights to convicted felons

Last Updated on

Florida residents took to the polls Tuesday and voted to approve the amendment 4 that restored convicted felons voting rights after they have served their prison sentences.

Yahoo news reports that voting restriction originated in Florida’s post-civil war constitution to prevent freed slaves from having the ability to vote.

Convicted felons make up 10% of Florida’s voting population and are expected to make a huge impact during the next voting cycle.
