Facebook considered selling user data

Facebook has a policy that it will not sell user data, but just a few short years ago the social media giant was considering doing different.

According to unredacted documents obtained by the  Wall Street Journal, Facebook considered charging companies for continued access to user data.  The company had also exchanged emails among the employees discussing how to push advertisers to pay more for increased access to user information.

At a congressional hearing in April, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg, 
“I can’t be clearer on this topic: We don’t sell data.”
