After manufacturing and distributing a new 4th of July themed Air Max shoe to stores with the old Bets Ross Flag. Former NFL star, Colin Kaepernick expressed to Nike his disapproval of the shoe and advised them to never release it.

The Betsy Ross Flag was a 1700s flag with the 13 stars in a circle representing the first 13 colonies. Today the flag is seen as a symbol of racism, and used by many separatist groups such as the Patriot Movement and Identity Evropa.

The word of Nike creating the shoe made the rounds within social media and caused great anger. A Nike spokesperson released the following statement, ” “Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag.”
