Andrew Gillum issues an apology for hotel incident, but distances himself from the methamphetamine found

Miami, Florida – “I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends. While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines,” he said. “I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement.”

Gillum was found in a Mondrian South Beach Hotel with a friend, Travis Dyson, 30, who needed immediate medical attention because of an apparent heart attack; there was also a third man in the room.

Gillum was reported to have been intoxicated and unable to properly communicate. There were bags of possible methamphetamines found and Gillum denies having any knowledge of it. As the former Tallahassee mayor, Gillum ran for Florida Governor in 20118 and came up only 34,000 votes short.

No arrests were made.
