Los Angeles, California – Just as the country was calming down over the shooting of 29-year-old, Jacob Blake, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Another 29-year-old Black man was shot by the Los Angeles Sheriff Deputies.
Dijon Kizzee was riding a bike on Budlong Ave when deputies observed him and believed he was violating vehicle codes. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has reported that deputies tried approaching Kizzee, but he abandons his bike and fled on foot. The Sheriff’s Department is reporting that Kizzee hit one of the officers and things got escalated; resulting in Kizzee being shot.
Lt. Brandon Dean told reporters, “Our suspect was holding some items of clothing in his hands, punched one of the officers in the face, and then dropped the items in his hands,” the lieutenant said. “The deputies noticed that inside the clothing items that he dropped was a black semi-automatic handgun.”
Protestors took to the South Los Angeles streets to voice their anger over Kizzee’s death.
