Wolfe City, Texas – Known for his involvement within the local community, Johnathan Price, 31, was recognized as the hometown hero that did almost everything: motivational speaker, trainer, professional athlete, and community advocate.
But Price’s last good deed cost him his life Saturday. After witnessing a domestic dispute at a Kwik Chek gas station Saturday night, Price tried de-escalating the situation before the police arrived.
Lee Merritt, the attorney for Price’s family, wrote on Facebook how the incident was described to him, “When police arrived, I’m told, he raised his hands and attempted to explain what was going on. Police fired tasers at him and when his body convulsed from the electrical current, they ‘perceived a threat’ and shot him to death.”
The Texas Rangers are investigating while the unidentified officer has been placed on administrative leave. Monday, a GoFundPage was started in Price’s honor; the page has already exceeded its $50,000 goal.
