Black History Month is a time to celebrate the individuals and significant events that have helped shaped Black America.
GOP candidate for governor, Austin Chenge, for Michigan wants to put an end to Black History Month. A Black man himself, Chenge believes that the month-long celebration is offensive. Chenge wrote on his Instagram post, “It’s offensive, unfair, may be illegal. Americans from all backgrounds deserve a revered history. I’ll declare American History Month.”
TheGrio describes Chenge as a 35-year-old U.S. Army Veteran of Nigerian descent that currently resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Michigan’s next election for governor will in November 2022.
