Minneapolis, Minnesota – It’s been nearly a year since George Floyd called out to his mother for help. May 25th marks the year anniversary of Floyd by the former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, who kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Chauvin and three other officers responded to a call after reports that Floyd tried to purchase cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill.
Chauvin is currently facing charges murder charges just as the city announces the $27 million lawsuit settlement with Floyd’s family. The city council unanimously approved the settlement on Friday in a private meeting.
The bystander video of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck sparked outrage nationwide and exterior damage to cities throughout the country. Chauvin has been charged with second and third degree murder and manslaughter.
