Minneapolis, Minnesota – It’s been over a year since the death of George Floyd and his accused killer’s trial is set to begin.
On Monday, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer, will finally appear in a courtroom that many across the country have been waiting to see. Marches were held in Minneapolis on Sunday to show where local residents stand against Chauvin and their push to have him properly prosecuted.
Chauvin is accused of kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he was held in custody for allegedly tying to use a counterfeit bill. In a bystander video, Floyd can be heard begging for Chauvin to get up because he couldn’t breathe. In early March, the city of Minneapolis settled with the Floyd’s family with the amount of $27 million.
