Brooklyn Center, Minnesota – After several days of unrest, the officer accused of shooting Daunte Wright has been charged with manslaughter.
Former Brooklyn Center police officer, Kim Potter, a 26 year veteran was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree-manslaughter of Daunte Wright. The shooting occurred in Hennepin County, but to prevent conflict of interest, Washington County will be prosecuting the case.
Wright was pulled over Sunday for having an outstanding warrant. As he was being placed in handcuffs, Wright tried getting away and was warned by Potter that she was going to tase him. Instead of deploying her taser, Potter shot Wright with her service pistol. Wright managed to get away, but only a few blocks where he later crashed. he was pronounced dead at the scene.
